Sarah Westhora

Sarah Westhora

Ballet Director/Vice President
Since 1988, Sarah has contiguously studied various styles of dance, including classical ballet, tap, and ballroom. Sarah began serious ballet training when 8 years old. Studying under Artistic Director Susan Connally, Sarah performed with the San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet (formerly the San Antonio Dance Theater) as a junior apprentice. She then studied with Julie Rutherford Blacksten and danced with the Classical Ballet Academy in Norman, Oklahoma.
While in college, Sarah danced as a ballroom team member of the Pacific Ballroom Dance Company in Washington under the tutelage of Cheri Ponder and Paul Hart. Sarah studied briefly at the Cache Valley School of Ballet in Logan, Utah. She also trained with Patrice Degraff, an instructor in the Imperial Russian method. She has attended Master Classes at the San Fransisco Ballet, the Denver Ballet, and Ballet West.

In August of 2007, Sarah moved to Tooele County with her husband Darren and three children. She has since instructed hundreds of youth and adults in classical dance and directed multiple performances of: Nutcracker 2008-2011, 2013-2015; Sleeping Beauty 2009, 2013; Swan Lake 2010, 2014; Cinderella 2011, 2015; Giselle 2012; as well as her own ballet based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (2012).

In addition, Sarah has coached ensemble groups, pas de deux and soloists for Youth America Grand Prix competitions hosted by the San Francisco Ballet, Colorado Ballet, and Ballet West.

Sarah bases her instruction on a comprehensive syllabus, drawing from the major schools and methods of ballet: French, Bournonville, Cecchetti, Vaganova, and Balanchine. She strongly feels classical ballet training to be the foundation of all other types of dance and a vital part of every dancer’s repertoire.

Phyllisa Conlin

Secretary

Phyllisa Conlin finds herself in awe of working with such an exceptional group of women. She finds that her greatest qualification is her willingness to help where needed. She has loved dance all her life. Due to economic circumstances, she was never able to take a class growing up. It was very thrilling for her to be able to give her children an opportunity that she was never able to have. In place of dance, she explored her vocal talents; singing in high school, college, and community choirs. Together with her husband, Joe, she has four beautiful children; Nathan, Daniel, Hannah, and AJ. In addition to her Board responsibilities, she works full time as an Instructor at Excelsior Academy. She is excited to be serving the community and the Academy.
